Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner looks set to join Scottish champions Celtic on a season-long loan deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old defender joined the Red Devils last summer, however has made limited appearances for the Old Trafford outfit.

And, now after a loan deal to Turkish side Besiktas fell through, Celtic are closing in a move to bring him to Scotland.

The lure of Champions League football will attract the Red Devils star and will give him experience in Eurrope's elite competition.

Aleksander Bursac, the man represents Buttner, told STV: "Yes, Celtic would like to take the player on loan for the season.

"We feel it would greatly help the boy’s development to be playing regularly at that level and in European football. Celtic are a really great club.

"They (Celtic) have been back and forward in dialogue with Manchester United. It’s in their hands now as we are not sure if they want to release him."

A deal for Buttner must be made by 11pm tonight as the Scottish transfer window shuts tonight.

Buttner's current side are preparing for a trip to Anfield to take on a Liverpool side who have won their opening two Premier League fixtures so far.

David Moyes will be hoping to take all three points on his return to Merseyside.
