Liverpool are closing in on their latest acquisition, with Sporting Lisbon defender Tiago Ilori heading to Anfield to complete a medical.
The Reds have agreed a fee for the 20-year-old, with Sky Sports reporting that this figure is around the £8 million mark.
Should Ilori complete a deal to join the red side of Merseyside, it would see manager Brendan Rodgers continuing the trend of signing upcoming young stars in order to safeguard Liverpool's long-term prospects. Ilori would join a host of summer signings, who, with the exception of veteran defender Kolo Toure, are no older than 26 years old.
Ilori could slot straight into the Liverpool side, as their backline has been severely depleted with injuries to Kolo Toure, Sebastian Coates and Aly Cissokho. At the tender age of 20, however, some would question if he was quite ready to jump straight into the first team, with the Anfield faithful's expectations for Liverpool players being notoriously high.
Liverpool are certainly building for the future, but are they neglecting the here and now? Ilori is undoubtedly a hot prospect, but is Rodgers' policy of building a squad of youthful exuberance leading to a lack of experience?
Or will it pay off with a quality side in a few years time? Reds fans, are you happy with this potential deal, and who would you sign now if you were the boss? Fans of other teams, does this new-look Liverpool side frighten you, or are these young Reds easier to take on? Let us know below.
