Tottenham put Arsenal to shame in the transfer market

Assessing both North London teams, ahead of the highly anticipated derby on Sunday, it is clear that Tottenham now possess a far better squad than Arsenal.

Whilst Arsenal's dithering in the transfer market has led them to fill their bench with kids, Tottenham have offset the departure of Gareth Bale by buying quality in abundance.

Lamela, Paulinho, Soldado, Chichires, Chadli and Eriksen have all been added to the Spurs ranks over the summer, whilst their neighbours have two underwhelming free transfers to their name.

Franco Baldini, Tottenham's director of football, and Daniel Levy should be applauded for their ruthlessness in the market, in stark contrast to the hapless nature in which Arsenal have conducted their business.

Serious questions have been raised about how Arsenal's transfer processes. The lack of a David Dein figure, instrumental in bringing the talents of the "Invincibles" side together, has left Arsenal without an authoritative voice to preside over their transfers, arguably the reason behind their lack of activity.

In terms of the result of the North London Derby, Tottenham are favourites but I think Arsenal may edge it. Although I believe Tottenham will finish above Arsenal, the new faces they have brought in to the squad will need time to gel, and Arsenal have shown in recent games that their first eleven is still very much capable of challenging. They more than any one else must feel let down by the club's lack of signings, considering all the promises that were made at the start of the window.
