In the football world, big name signings steal the headlines everyday during the transfer window, but Southampton have nurtured some fantastic young talent in their youth academy that could potentially change their season.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott (both now with Arsenal) and Luke Shaw are just a few of the players to come out of the academy, with Shaw is expected to be England's next first team left-back. Let's not forget that Gareth Bale, who is now the PFA Player of the Year, came out of this Academy as well.
Southampton, who had a strong season in the previous campaign, have a perfectly balanced team. Players such as Shaw and James Ward-Prowse are getting game time, while more experienced players such as Pablo Osvaldo are offering a more experienced side of play to Mauricio Pochettino's side.
They also have a brilliant playing style, combining possession football with clinical attacks. Once their youthful talent become more experienced, Southampton will be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.
Southampton supporters should be very pleased with the way their club go about spending in the transfer window and the way that they set up their youth academy.
This side of the game is often forgotten with big names and money being chucked around here and there, but youth talent is just as important as big name signings.
