Roma boss Rudi Garcia is confident that Daniele de Rossi will stay at the club, despite speculation surrounding the star midfielder’s future at the Stadio Olimpico.

Manchester United are thought to be interested in De Rossi and Sky Sports have recently reported that the Premier League club have made a £10 million bid for the Italian international.

However, Garcia does not believe De Rossi, who has also been linked to Chelsea and Manchester City, will leave the club anytime soon.

"Daniele de Rossi isn't only a big player, but he's also a big man," Garcia told reporters. "He has been here at Roma for a long time and he wants to play with this jersey.

"We spoke when he came back from his holidays and we said that, if it got past a certain date, he would certainly remain with us.

"He will stay here for the whole season and this is something that satisfies me a lot."

De Rossi has spent his entire professional career at Roma and has made over 300 appearances for the Serie A club.

The news will come as a blow to Manchester United manager David Moyes as De Rossi is the fifth midfielder the club have missed out on in this summer’s transfer window.

Earlier this week, United failed with their bids for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera, while they were also unsuccessful in their attempts to bring Cesc Fabregas and Thiago to the club.
