Arsenal target last minute move for Chelsea striker

Arsenal are targeting a deadline day deal for Chelsea striker Demba Ba as Arsene Wenger looks to complete several last minute signings, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Chelsea have told Ba he is free to leave west London despite signing less than nine months ago in a £7m deal from Newcastle.

The Magpies have also expressed their interest in bringing the player back to St James' Park but can no longer match his wage demands, which stand at £80,000-a-week.

Arsene Wenger, however, is willing to match those demands as he looks to expand his options in attack.

With injuries to Lukas Podolski and Nicklas Bendtner likely to leave, Olivier Giroud stands as Wenger's only recognised striker in the squad.

Ba, a proven Premier League striker, is seen as a cheap option as Chelsea are likely to let him leave for significantly less than they bought him for.

The Senegal international scored important goals for Chelsea last season but does not feature in Jose Mourinho's plans with Romelu Lukaku and Fernando Torres ahead in the pecking order.

Ba will not be the super star signing that Arsenal fans are after but a deal for both Ba and Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil will go a long way to appeasing frustrated fans.
