Jose Mourinho said that he didn't think that any new players would arrive at Chelsea in his post-match interview after the penalty shootout defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Super Cup clash on Friday.
However, there was still time for the reigning Europa League champions to squeeze another signing in the form of Ghana international winger Christian Atsu, who agreed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge, joining from FC Porto in a £3.5million deal, as reported by BBC Sport.
The 21-year-old will be immediately sent on a season-long loan to Vitesse Arnhem, joining Patrick Van Aanholt, Gael Kakuta, Lucas Piazon and Cristian Cuevas as the latest Chelsea youngster to join the Dutch club for the 2013/14 campaign.
Atsu has made 16 appearances for Ghana, scoring three goals in the process. He was loaned out to Rio Ave in the 2011/12 season where he played part in 30 matches in both league and cup competition, but scored only six times as he won Rio Ave's player of the season.
Last year he made 17 appearances for Porto as he scored three goals, and helped his side win the Portuguese title, and also gained European experience after helping his former club reach the Champions League knockout stages, where they were eventually defeated by Manuel Pellegrini's Malaga.
