Some of the best players in history have been wingers and modern day wingers are just as good. Here, I look at the top five wingers currently playing:

5. Marco Reus - Borussia Dortmund

Reus was outstanding last season for Dortmund. The German is capable of playing on the wing or in the centre of midfield, and can even be utilised as a striker if necessary. Reus performed well in Dortmund's journey to the Champions League Final.

He scored 14 goals in the Bundesliga last season and 24 in his 56 appearances in all competitions. Reus has been heavily linked with a move away from the Signal Iduna Park, but it looks as though he will remain in Germany for at least another four months.

4. Arjen Robben - Bayern Munich

Robben was one of the best players in the world at Chelsea, Real Madrid and now Bayern. Robben has the ability to score and assist, with the Dutchman creating 18 goals and scoring 14 times in 39 appearances last season.

Robben receives criticism for his lack of passing but sometimes that's best but at other times, not so good. He's a pacy winger and was vital in Bayern's successful Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns.

3. Franck Ribery - Bayern Munich

Another Bayern winger making an appearance on this list and even better than his teammate. Ribery, much like Robben, scores and creates goals, which makes him an asset.

He scored 13 goals last season and picked up and incredible 27 assists, the most of anyone on this list. Arguably Bayern's best player last season, Ribery will be looking for international success with France in next year’s World Cup.

2. Eden Hazard - Chelsea

Chelsea signed this man from Lille for £30million and he has been an asset for the Blues ever since. He created 26 goals for his Chelsea teammates, helping to propel the Blues to third place last season. While doing this, he also contributed a handy 16 goals.

The Belgian was also shortlisted for PFA Player of the Year award. A player with vision, emphatic passes and mazy dribbles, Hazard has proven to be worth every penny Chelsea paid for him.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo - Real Madrid

This £80 million man needs no introduction. In the running for the best player in the world title, Ronaldo scored 59 goals in 64 appearances last season and also grabbed 17 assists - phenomenal for a winger.

Ronaldo is starting to adapt to a striker position and played there in Real Madrid's victory against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. Ronaldo captains the Portugal national side, but is yet to bring international success to his country. With blistering speed, pinpoint passes and curling efforts, Ronaldo has helped Madrid to challenge Barcelona for the La Liga title and has also fuelled his rivalry with Lionel Messi.

The Portugal International has been linked with a move back to Manchester United, but these rumours have moved into the shadows and Ronaldo looks like he will be staying in Madrid until next summer.

Other Wingers Considered:
Ezequiel Lavezzi (PSG), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Hulk (Zenit), Oscar (Chelsea), Andre Schurrle (Chelsea), Jesus Navas (Manchester City), Neymar Jr. (Barcelona), Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid)
