Southampton's Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka has joined French Ligue 1 side Sochaux-Montbeliard on season-long loan, the English club have confirmed.

Mayuka joined Southampton in August 2012 from Swiss club BSC Young Boys, but has appeared for the Saints on just eleven occasions, scoring two goals. Mayuka never scored a Premier League goal for the Saints, and had to endure an eleven-month wait before scoring his first goal in any competition.

Mayuka's first goal for the club came in July 2013, when he scored an impressive volley against Turkish side Besiktas in a pre-season friendly.

His first competitive goal came just last week, when he scored the third goal in Southampton's 5-1 win away at Barnsley in the Capital One Cup second round.

Mayuka is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season, and with Zambia aiming for World Cup qualification, the forward will be keen to ensure he remains in the Chipolopolo's plans.

First team opportunities have become increasingly limited for Mayuka, following the arrival of Italian international Dani Osvaldo from Serie A giants AS Roma earlier this month.

It is understood that there is no option to buy Mayuka, who remains part of Southampton's long-term plans.
