GiveMeSport has set its sights on overtaking SkySports in the next six months to enhance its growing reputation as the new breed of European sports publisher.
Having grown into the second largest dedicated sports website in the UK since the official launch in February, GiveMeSport now plans to establish itself as the leading publisher in the country - with Sky Sports now the only competitor it needs to surpass.
GiveMeSport attracted 18 million visits in the month of July thanks to its refreshing approach to content along with constant technical innovation, which enables a load speed faster than any other sports website.
This speed is particularly important on mobile - somewhere GiveMeSport excels - with a load time of two seconds, compared to SkySports' three seconds (source: Pingdom).
The combination of original content, very fast loading time and frequent innovation, has been key to the 20 percent month-on-month since the website's launch, and provides GiveMeSport co-founder Nick Thain with reason to believe it is only a matter of time until SkySports is overtaken.
“Everyone knows the traditional publishing model is dead. However, in sports publishing, the mistakes being made in print media are also being made more frequently online too," he said.
"At GiveMeSport we have a completely new and fresh approach – we write about what the fans actually want to read, not what our writers want to write about or what we think will be of interest.
"We publish those stories to the places the fans want to read them, i.e. across social channels as well as on our site, making it far easier for them to share the latest news with their friends. And we don’t expect our visitors to pay for any of our content. Its common sense really but it works.”
