Sami Khedira looks set to remain at Real Madrid this summer, despite renewed interest from Chelsea, ESPN reports.
The Germany international was reported to be discontented at the Bernabeu following the arrival of Asier Illarramendi, who has added to the already-fierce competition for midfield spots.
Khedira is said to have told the club earlier this summer of his desire to leave, with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea being the preferred destination.
Interest in the 26-year-old was renewed today following speculation that Chelsea could launch a last minute bid to take him to Stamford Bridge.
The player's representative, Jorg Neubauer, however, has said that his client will remain at Madrid past tonight's transfer deadline.
“Sami will stay at Real,” he told a German newspaper this morning.
“Just like he has always said."
Khedira has not made an official statement regarding his immediate future, but it seems he is happy to remain at Real Madrid should no offer come in for him.
Xabi Alonso's injury, which could see him sidelined for up to three months, has increased the chance of the German midfielder gaining a foothold within the first XI, and if his agent is to be believed, his wish is to stay there anyway.
