This weekend was a pivotal one in the Premier League. With the transfer window due to shut on Monday evening, the latest fixtures were the very last chance managers across the division will have to assess their squads and decide upon areas that desperately require strengthening for the long campaign ahead. 

There were certainly no shortage of talking points. Sunderland and Paolo Di Canio's difficult start to the season continued with a surprise defeat at Crystal Palace, Manchester City left it late to see of newly-promoted Hull while Liverpool and Arsenal both recorded derby victories over Manchester United and Tottenham respectively.
