Gareth Bale has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo is still the best player in the world and revealed playing alongside the Portuguese superstar was one of the main reasons behind him deciding to make the world record £86million move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid on Sunday.

Bale’s arrival lead to the transfer of Germany midfielder Mesut Özil to Arsenal and he will reportedly earn in excess £6million-a-year at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners smashed their transfer record to secure the £42million deadline day signing of the 24-year-old, which is being hailed as a massive coup by manager Arsene Wenger.

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has warned people not to write the Old Trafford side off, despite an under par start to the season.

David Moyes’ side went down 1-0 against Liverpool on Sunday after noon at Anfield, meaning they have only gained four points form their opening three Premier League matches – their worst start for five years.

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has called Jose Mourinho’s quotes following Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to the Bundesliga champions “outrageous”.

The Portuguese claimed the referee was wrong to send off Ramires for a second bookable offence and even hinted at a possible conspiracy involving European football’s governing body.

New Manchester City signing Martin Demichelis says he is delighted to have joined the Etihad Stadium club and is hungry for success with them.

It will be third time the Argentine has played under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, at both Malaga and River Plate in his native country.

And finally, Neymar insists Barcelona are only going to get better with every game after the Catalan club survived a scare in the victory over Valencia on Sunday.

Lionel Messi scored a first half hat-trick but the home side struck back and the Spanish champions had to grind out a 3-2 victory at the Mestalla, though Neymar is adamant the team will get physically stronger and improved performances were not far away.
