Arsenal have completed the signing of Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil for £42.4 million, reports the BBC.

The Germany International has agreed personal terms for his switch to the Emirates.

Ozil will cost the Gunners £42.4 million, becoming Arsenal's club record signing.

Arsene Wenger has failed to land the club's top targets this summer and the Real Madrid ace will become the Frenchman's marquee signing for the summer.

Arsenal were also in the running to land Ozil's teammates Angel di Maria and star striker Karim Benzema, but neither deal came to fruition ahead of last night's 11pm deadline.

Ozil is currently on international duty and so his medical took place in Germany.

The 24-year-old, who joined the Spanish capital-based side in 2010 from Werder Bremen for £12.4 million, has not been assured regular football under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Ozil's place at Madrid had been threatened by star arrivals including former Malaga star Isco and the latest world transfer record signing of Gareth Bale.

The playmaker was also believed to be chased by arch rivals Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but it's Arsenal who won the race for the player's signature.
