Liverpool target Toby Alderwiereld has completed his move to Atletico Madrid in favour of a switch to the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.
The Dutch club accepted a bid in the region of £5 million from Spartak Moscow earlier this month, but the Belgian international turned down a move to Russia in the hope that he could secure a move to one of the top European clubs.
The big Belgian is seen as the perfect replacement for Martin Demichelis, who joined Manchester City earlier in the window.
Liverpool have already added Kolo Toure, Tiago Ilori, Aly Cissokho and Mamadou Sakho to their defence during the transfer window, but missed out on a move for the Ajax stopper.
24-year-old Alderweireld, who managed 15 goals in 186 appearances for Ajax, signed a four-year deal in the Spanish capital before the transfer deadline slammed shut at 11pm last night.
Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur had also previously been linked with Alderweireld this summer, but it was Atletico Madrid who won the race for the highly-rated defender.
