Amid all the clamours from Arsenal fans that their manager has finally come to his senses and started splashing the clash on quality players, there are still examples of the success of the way he has managed transfers until now.
Frenchman Olivier Giroud, who has been prolific in front of goal since the beginning of pre-season is shining testament to that.
The coming to form of the striker follows on from other players who have managed to bring success to Arsenal, in particular Thierry Henry, who was the basis of their squad for seven years before moving on to Barcelona.
He brings with it an aura that reminds the fans of the club’s glory days, along with the reasons why Arsene Wenger has been in his position for so long.
Indeed, apart from the fact that they share a nationality, Henry and Giroud were both signed from French clubs and grown to become integral parts of the way the Gunners set up ahead of matches.
Despite some shaky moments during his first season, the former Montpellier forward has now scored three out of Arsenal’s five goals so far this season, making him their top scorer for and, with Lukas Podolski out of the picture for several months, this could means he keeps that position.
Add to that a whole host of goals in pre-season and there are signs of a top striker coming of age in the Barclays Premier League.
Of course, with the arrival of Mesut Ozil at the club, there will be a clash between the old system and the new, as he represents a way of doing things that is more conventional in the modern footballing world.
All this after the club arrived into modern world, albeit a few years before now, with the signing of Podolski for £10.9million, which was a sort of stepping stone for the club to discover how to operate with all the money they have.
Whether Giroud will keep his form and keep the old way relevant or whether Ozil will stamp his mark and make himself the most important player in the team will show the way forward for Arsenal.
