Birmingham City sign Caddis
Manager Lee Clark has re-signed defender Paul Caddis from Swindon for an undisclosed fee
Birmingham City have re-signed Swindon Town captain Paul Caddis for an undisclosed fee, according to BBC Sport.
The Scotland U21 international impressed during a season-long loan last season and Lee Clark has moved quickly to re-sign the 25-year-old on a three-year deal. Clark had a series of bids rejected for the defender in the earlier stages of the transfer window, but his perseverance has paid off on the final day of trading.
Caddis had joined Birmingham last season after falling out with then Swindon manager Paulo Di Canio, who stripped the Scot of the captain's armband. Caddis vowed to never return to Swindon but Di Canio eventually left for Sunderland and the Scot decided to stay at the County Ground.
Clark had initially been told by the Birmingham board that there would be no funds whatsoever to spend this season as the club remains in financial disarray. But Clark has found the fee, believed to be in the region of £150,000, in order to bring Caddis back to St Andrews.
Birmingham's need for a right-back intensified after last weekend's 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town, with regular first-team starter Neal Eardley sustaining an injury that could keep him out for the rest of the season.
Manager Clark is expected to dip into the emergency loan market, which opens next week, as the Blues search for a striker after releasing high-earner Marlon King earlier this week.
