Nathaniel Chalobah's on-off loan proposed loan deal to Crystal Palace formally ended yesterday with the closing of the transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is said to be a keen admirer of the 18-year-old, who impressed whilst on loan at Watford last season. Chalobah performed with a real sense of maturity, leading the Hornets to the Championship Play-Off Final, where they eventually lost to Crystal Palace.
Chalobah signed a new five-year deal with the club last week, committing his future to Chelsea until at least 2018.
Watford boss Gianfranco Zola is said to be keen on signing him on a years loan once again. Chelsea would however prefer him to gain some experience playing in the Premier League.
Crystal Palace missed out on the signing of Chalobah when the transfer window slammed shut yesterday evening, however Championship teams have a longer window available to bring in players on loan.
Watford would be the most logical destination for him, and with Zola already expressing his interest, a done deal cannot be too far away. Chalobah would be returning to familiar surroundings, and with Watford challenging for Championship honours once again, he can only get better and better.
It remains to be seen when and if Chalobah will move on loan. In order for him to progress as a player and make it to the top, he must be playing first team football - not sitting in the Chelsea reserves.
