Real supporters had extremely high hopes for Brazilian attacker Robinho when he arrived from Santos in July 2005. Having beaten off a number of fellow European heavyweights to his signature, the Sao Vicente-born talent was expected to dazzle the Bernabeu for many years to come.

As it was, Robinho spent three years in the Spanish capital. He was relatively successful during this time, showcasing his talents with 30 goals and a plethora of assists.

Despite being heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea, Robinho moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2008 after reportedly becoming unhappy with Real's persistent interest in a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.
