After a hectic transfer window for many, many clubs, the Gunners remained fairly silent until the last few hours, when Mesut Özil joined the North London side for a club record £42.4million from Real Madrid.
Alongside the German, three other players have joined the Gunners; young striker Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre and Mathieu Flamini from AC Milan on free transfers and goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano from Palermo on a season-long loan deal.
Many fans had expected the club to sign a defensive midfielder, as Arsenal had constantly monitored Marouane Fellaini from Everton, however, the Belgian had joined rivals Manchester United during the closing stages of the window.
Also, interest was believed to be in Swansea defender Ashley Williams, but an agreement could not be made. The one position that the fans thought the club would sign would be at strike, as throughout the months of July and August, Arsenal had placed bids on Jovetic, Higuain and Luis Suarez, all of which got rejected.
The majority of fans would be extremely delighted that the club had showed determination to add to the clubs current starting squad in order to strive for silverware, as none has gone their way for eight seasons. A signing like Mesut Ozil would most definitely aid the Gunners towards their target.
The club, manager and director most certainly are looking forward to a great season ahead, despite the number of unlucky injuries occurring during the early stages of the season.
However, extremely positive starts from the Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey and striker Olivier Giroud mean Arsène Wenger won't have to worry about overburdening the promising potential in young players such as Jack Wilshere,
Wilshere's talent on the pitch and Wenger's nous off of it will most certainly lead the club in the right direction that the fans have been waiting to see for the past eight years.
