Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas says new Arsenal signing Mesut Ozil was Real Madrid's best player after Cristiano Ronaldo and is surprised at Los Blancos' decision to sell the German playmaker.
The attacking midfielder made the switch from the Spanish giants to the north London club in the final hours of transfer deadline day, with the fee of £42.5 million shattering Arsenal's previous transfer record.
Fabregas, Arsenal's ex-captain, insists Ozil will prove to be a great addition for his former team.
"Ozil was the second-best player at Real Madrid behind Cristiano Ronaldo," Fabregas told COPE.
The Spain international added: "I could identify with him really well as we have a similar style of play. He's an amazing signing for Arsenal."
Ozil will be the star attraction at Arsenal, however it seems not everyone is happy about the move.
The Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed he is "unhappy" with Ozil's move to Arsenal.
Another of Ozil's former teammates, Sergio Ramos, echoed his disappointment in Spanish newspaper Marca after the German had been allowed to move to the Emirates Stadium.
He said: "Ozil would be the very last player who I would sell from Real Madrid, if it was up to me. I don't understand this."
There is a feeling that the Germany international was pushed out of the Real Madrid camp after the Spanish club's hierarchy made clear they had lost faith in his abilities, prompting his eye-catching transfer to Arsenal.
