Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao is said to have been left devastated by the collapse of his season-long loan move to Manchester United.

TalkSPORT.com reports that the Portugal international is being consoled by fellow countrymen Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo, after breaking down over the news that he could not move to Old Trafford.

United made a late effort to sign the full-back on deadline day, and many reports claimed that a transfer had been completed. However it then transpired that Madrid had pulled the plug at the very last minute after failing to sign a replacement.

The 25-year-old former Benfica man was said to be reduced to tears over the inability to complete the deal, and is now forced to remain at the Bernabeu until at least January.

Reports suggest that Moyes has no intention to renew his interest in Coentrao during the next transfer window, but the player is thought to be looking for a way out of Madrid.

Coentrao has become something of a bit-part player as Marcelo is the preferred first choice left-back. Strong competition in the midfield has meant that his chances have been severely limited and he is desperate for first team football ahead of the World Cup next year.
