Despite Liverpool's star man Luis Suarez remaining at Anfield after constant speculation over a potential exit this summer, ex-Reds midfielder Steve McMahon believes the striker is just waiting for a chance to leave and has severely doubted the Uruguayan's commitment.
Following public comments that he wanted to depart Merseyside earlier this summer, the tug-of-war transfer saga over Suarez, which saw major interest from both Arsenal and Real Madrid, came to it's conclusion on deadline day as the Uruguay international stayed put at Anfield.
Suarez eventually performed a U-turn, but McMahon says he is not convinced Suarez is at Liverpool to stay.
“You don’t know whether you can trust him,” he told talkSPORT. ”If he had the opportunity to jump ship, do you think he’d do it? The obvious answer is yes.
“He’s just biding his time. He wants to get another good season under his belt and then he’ll see what opportunities there are to leave Liverpool [next summer].”
It remains to be seen what mentality and attitude Suarez, currently serving a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season, returns to the field with. Will his head and heart be in it after such a disturbed summer?
Liverpool fans will certainly hope he doesn't disrupt the team's flow and the in-form Daniel Sturridge. England international Sturridge has scored three match-winning goals for the Reds so far this campaign, with the club enjoying their best start to a league season in 19 years after three straight victories.
