Lawrence Okoye has been handed his first official shirt number for the San Francisco 49ers - and it's number 98.
The defensive lineman will spend the season on injured reserve, but announced on Twitter that he's been given the number 98 to wear.
Okoye tweeted: "98 is my new official number - won't be wearing it for a while though lol."
By putting him on the injured reserve, the 49ers retain the right to sign Okoye next season.
He won't be able to practice with the team this term, but he can continue his development off-the-field.
For someone who hadn't played a down of NFL football before this preseason, the work in the classroom on the 49ers playbook will be useful.
The ban on practice with the team will mean Okoye will not be able to put on his pads and work on his technique with the rest of the 53-man squad.
According to ninersnation.com, once the season ends Okoye will be able to get back on the field with the 49ers staff ahead of the new campaign.
The 49ers, who signed the former-Olympic discus thrower as a defensive prospect, reached the Superbowl last season. But the Bay Area team lost in the showpiece event to the Baltimore Ravens.
