Top five: Riskiest transfer deals of the summer (4)

Manchester United | Marouane Fellaini

At £27.5 million, Manchester United took a massive gamble by signing Marouane Fellaini.

David Moyes could have been reunited with the Everton midfielder for £4 million less prior to his release clause expiring on July 31, but instead he opted to wait until transfer deadline day to launch a last-minute bid for the Belgian international.

A lack of transfer strategy was conspicuously absent from Old Trafford this summer, and the farcical Ander Herrera debacle only added to United's woes further.

Fellaini may well join the list of expensive flops to have made a high-profile move to the Premier League giants, though following their frustrating summer, the Old Trafford faithful were happy to see anyone walk through the entrance door.
