Usain Bolt has revealed that he is planning to bow out of his glittering athletics career in style.

The Jamaican already boasts six Olympic gold medals but insists he is targeting three more at the 2016 Olympic and will retire soon after.

Speaking ahead of the Diamond League meeting in Brussels on Friday, Bolt said he can sustain his top level performance for another three years but wants to go out at the top.

Of his retirement plans, he told reporters: "So far it's after the Olympics in Rio.

"If I'm in great shape and I go there and do what I have to do, I think it would be a good time to retire on top and having dominated for so long."

If he was to complete the 100m, 200m and 4x100m treble again, it would award him an unprecedented treble treble, leaving no doubt over his position as the greatest sprinter ever.

However, earlier in the season he admitted he was struggling to find the motivation to get back to his peak level.

He is quoted in the Telegraph as saying: "I couldn't find that goal, that drive to get going again," he said.

"I sat down and thought to myself: what do I really want? And what can I do in this sport some more?

"I've made up my mind that if I want to be among the greats of Ali, Pele and all these guys I have to continue dominating until I retire.

"I'm really focused on getting every season correct, trying not to get injured, and just continue dominating so at the end of my career people will put me among the greats."

Bolt went on to laugh off claims from disgraced sprinter Ben Johnson that the Canadian in his prime would beat Bolt.

Johnson had made the claim with an interview with the BBC but Bolt puts the claims down to attention seeking.

"Everybody says everything to get into the media and stir up a little bit, but he could never beat me," Bolt said.

"That's just him trying to get some attention. I don't see Ben Johnson beating me at any time."
