The recent furore Roy Hodgson created by challenging journalists to name more than 30 or 40 English players he could pick from for the international squad has led to much doom and gloom surrounding the current set-up.

However, hot on the heels of new FA chairman Greg Dyke's bold ambition for an English World Cup victory in 2022, Jack Wilshere has looked to rebuff the feeling that the English team is suffering from a decline in quality and has instead pointed for people to look to recognise his "gifted" peers.

Although only 21, the Arsenal midfielder's performances are already being compared to that of Paul Gascoigne, however, Wilshere was quick to deny that he is the sole player of the 'new generation' capable of becoming world-class when talking to Zapsportz.com.

"There is a lot of pressure," the Arsenal midfielder admitted. "But I think it's not just me- there are a lot of other players such as Tom Cleverley and Jack Rodwell who are all gifted players who bring hope to England in the future."

"Although it's a lot of pressure, I think that's part of playing football and being part of the England team and people expect you to deliver. You have to live with the pressure and criticism if you don't deliver."

Wilshere, who has only eight international caps to his name following an injury-plagued couple of years, is expected to recover from a stomach bug that saw him withdraw from the north London derby for Friday's match against Moldova.
