Five famous transfer fails (1)

Manchester United suffered an embarrassing transfer failure on deadline day, with new boss David Moyes failing to bring Fabio Coentrao to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils aren’t the only club to miss out on a big-name target of course, with several other Premier League clubs falling agonisingly short of completing a mega-deal in the past.

That's a point proven by Samuel Eto'o today (Saturda), with the Cameroonian international revealing he came within hours of joining the Gunners from Real Mallorca back in 2000.

After deciding to stay in Spain, the striker eventually earned a move to Barcelona, but will now get his chance in the Premier League 13-years later.

With the most recent transfer window still fresh in the memory, and Eto'o recent confession, GiveMeSport decided to look back at some of the biggest moves that so nearly happened.

Things might have been very different for both the players and teams involved – some for the better, others perhaps for the worse.
