NFL: Week one predictions

Obviously it is the first few games of the new campaign so I’m only working off the pre-season games, but here are my thoughts on this weekend's opening round of action in the NFL:

Denver Broncos vs Baltimore Ravens

I think Peyton Manning leads the Denver Broncos to revenge for last season’s play-off defeat in this season opener.

Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots

Tom Brady’s New England Patriots will get their season off to a solid win on the road.

Carolina Panthers vs Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks will be too strong and physical for Carolina.

Chicago Bears vs Cincinnati Bengals

There has been a lot of preseason hype around the Bengals which has been fuelled even further by television series Hard Knocks. But this is a tough game and I think the Bears will edge this.

Cleveland Browns vs Miami Dolphins

I’ve struggled to call this one because I’ve been unimpressed with Miami in the pre-season and I think Norv Turner will get this Browns offence going. However, I think the Dolphins will have just a little too much for them.

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings

This clash should be renamed AD vs CJ after last year. I’m backing Adrian Peterson to get the season off to a flyer and lead the Vikings to an opening win.

Indianapolis Colts vs Oakland Raiders

I don’t know what to expect from the Oakland Raiders with Terrelle Pryor at quarterback, but the Colts offense will surely be too much for them.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Kansas City Chiefs

This is the Chief’s first opportunity to show they are a changed team and I expect a victory for Andy Reid’s new side.

New Orleans Saints vs Atlanta Falcons

Sean Payton, Drew Brees and the rest of the Saints roster will be eager to show they are back and they mean business against their division rivals and I am backing them to start with a bang.

New York Jets vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Jets are in complete disarray at the quarterback position. Geno Smith definitely isn’t ready to start and the Buccaneers will take full advantage of this.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Tennessee Titans

A nice opening game for the Steelers and they should easily dismiss the Titans on Sunday.

San Francisco 49ers vs Green Bay Packers

I keep having flashbacks to the playoff game last year and I’m struggling to believe that the Packers will be able to completely stop the read option offense so the 49ers will start off with a home win.

St.Louis Rams vs Arizona Cardinals

I have Arizona as my NFC sleeper team, with their upgrades on both sides of the ball so I am going to pick them to win this tough divisional match.

Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants

The Cowboys are hoping for Tony Romo to step it up this year and I think this will be a good start for them against their divisional rivals.

Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles

Presuming RG3 is ready to go, I think the Eagles will take some time to get used to Chip Kelly’s ideas and the Redskin’s offence will take advantage of their poor defence.

San Diego Chargers vs Houston Texans

The Texans are primed for another assault on the AFC Championship and they will begin that journey with a solid road win.
