Barcelona chasing Chelsea goalkeeper

Barcelona are interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Courtois, who joined the Blues from Belgian outfit Racing Genk on a five-year contract in July 2011, has come to the attention of the Catalan giants during a highly-impressive loan spell with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.

The Belgium international, who has filled the sizeable void left by the departure of David de Gea at Vicente Calderon, is in his third-consecutive season on loan in the Spanish capital and truly endeared himself to the Atletico fanbase with a succession of marvellous saves during the club's 2-1 win over fierce rivals Real Madrid in the 2013 Copa del Rey final.

Barcelona are believed to be actively searching for a successor to Victor Valdes, with the 31-year-old having made his intentions to leave the club at the end of this season perfectly clear. Courtois appears to be the man at the top of manager Gerardo Martino's wishlist, although Barca have also been linked with a potential move for Liverpool's Pepe Reina.

Whether Chelsea would be willing to let the 21-year-old leave, however, remains to be seen. Petr Cech, who has been at Stamford Bridge since the summer of 2004, remains the club's first-choice between the posts but Courtois has been touted by many as his eventual successor.
