Although the player remained quiet in the transfer window amid the speculation, he has now told reporters that he was approached by Dani Alves and Neymar to help convince him to join the Camp Nou club.
The 26-year-old spoke to Gazeta Esportiva: "Barcelona sent Alves and Neymar to convince me to join them, but I was clear to them. I wanted Chelsea."
The Brazilian defender would have been the perfect acquisition with his ability to keep a high line and close pressing style.
David Luiz has all the traits you would expect of a Brazilian defender. Great technical ability, flair, and a fantastic passing range.
With the recent appointment of Chelsea favourite Jose Mourinho and a wealth of quality youngsters, it is no surprise that David Luiz opted to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Chelsea star also went on to say that he was looking forward to Chelsea's champions League campaign after drawing Basel, Schalke and Steaua Bucharest in the group stages
"It's always a tough competition with great opponents. But it's always good when we can avoid teams with history of wins in the competition."
