Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is confident that the Red Devils have what it takes to win every major competition this season.

After United's slow start to the season, gaining four points in three games, the former England international has hit out at the critics who are ruling Manchester United out of the title race.

Many United fans urged the board to make some marquee signings this summer to improve the side further, but it was only Marouane Fellaini who ultimately ended up at Old Trafford.

Having missed out on several big name targets and losing to rivals Liverpool at the weekend, United fans are fearing that their side was not as strong as they used to be.

However, Rio Ferdinand has defended Manchester United, saying they still have a great squad and are very capable of winning silverware this year.

The former Leeds United and West Ham defender said: “We’ve got a strong enough squad to win everything. We won the league at a canter last season and we’ve not become a bad team overnight. We believe strongly in what we have got. And anyway, you can’t judge the league after three games.”

Few can argue that the reigning Premier League champions don't have a squad that will be more than a match for most, but with their closest competitors strengthening strongly during the summer, it will be interesting to see if Moyes' charges can emulate the sort of form fans became accustomed to during Sir Alex Ferguson's time at the helm.
