Chelsea's Dutch under-21 defender Nathan Ake has revealed he rejected a loan move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Many of Chelsea's young stars have gone out on-loan for a section of this season in order to gain vital first-team football with manager Jose Mourinho keen on moulding a new-look, youthful Chelsea squad. The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Moses, Thorgan Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have all left to gain first-team football at a high level.

Lukaku and Moses both headed to Merseyside, to join Everton and Liverpool respectively, whilst Hazard moves to his native Belgium to play for Zulte Waregem. Meanwhile, Courtois spends another season with Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.

But young Dutch defender Ake has made the decision to remain with the London club this season, despite many other youngsters all heading out on loan.

Ake was widely tipped to return to his homeland for a loan spell, but he has decided to stay and train with the Chelsea first team squad, hoping for a chance to break into the side at sometime during this season.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper AD, Ake said: "It was discussed, but if I have a full year at Chelsea it will be my third season in London."

And it seems that Ake is keen to continue his development in the capital, and become an official player to emerge from Chelsea's bright youth academy.

"Then I will count officially as a player from the club's youth academy. Every club in England must have a minimum of self-developed players, it was a conscious choice," he added.
