Usain Bolt has laughed off disgraced sprinter Ben Johnson's claims that he could have beaten the Jamaican over 100 metres.

Speaking last week, the Canadian, who was stripped of his 1988 100m title after testing positive for anabolic steroids, claimed that he could have beaten Bolt if the two had raced at the same time.

"I think Ben Johnson is the best sprinter. They don't have the power I have," said the 51-year-old, talking about modern sprinters.

However, speaking on Wednesday before his final 100m race of the Diamond League season in Brussels, Bolt was unconvinced.

“He could never beat me,” he said to reporters.

“As far as I’m concerned, that’s just him trying to get attention.

"I don’t see Ben Johnson beating me at any time.”

The Jamaican sprinter has won three gold medals at both of the last two Olympics - in London in 2012 and Beijing in 2008.

And he is aiming for another treble in Brazil in 2016 after which he may decide to go out on top and retire from sprinting.

"If I'm in great shape and I go there [to Rio] and do what I have to do, I think it would be a good time to retire on top and having dominated for so long," he said.

"If I want to be among the greats of [Muhammad] Ali and Pele I have to continue dominating until I retire.

"I don't want to have an off season, so for me I'm really focussed on getting every season correct so that at the end of my career people put me among the greats."
