Former Tottenham Hotspur captain, Ledley King has backed his former club to shine, even without star player Gareth Bale this season.
Reports claim that King said that the reinforcements Tottenham have made this summer will make up for the departure of Bale to Real Madrid.
After three months of intense speculation surrounding Bale and a move away from Tottenham, Madrid finally got their man after putting pen to paper on a six-year deal.
The funds given by Bale's transfer were wisely used by Spurs this summer, following the arrivals of Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Vlad Chiriches.
The former Tottenham defender believes that Spurs will be better now that they are not so dependant on one player this season.
However, King also thinks that as Spurs have made numerous reinforcements this summer, it will take some time for the players to gel as a team.
“The problem if you rely on one player is injuries to that one player,” King is quoted by BBC Sport. “My theory is you’re better off with a stronger squad, a strong bench – that’s what’s needed to finish in the top four.
“When you bring in the number of players we’ve brought in it’s going to take a bit of time. You’d hope everyone would hit the ground running, but it’s not realistic.
“There’s no easy games (in the Premier League) and the players will learn that as they go along.”
