City fans will be cursing their lucky after it was revealed new centre-back signing, Martin Demichelis, will be out for six weeks, according to Sky Sports.

Demichelis, who was signed to sure up City's back-line, has suffered a knee injury that will rule him out of their next few games.

The Argentine international, whom Manuel Pellegrini paid £3.25million to get from Atletico Madrid, is facing a spell on the sidelines that could see him unavailable for selection until November.

It is believed the injury was sustained during training, and that surgery will not be required, but Pellegrini is likely to be miffed that the man he bought in to steady the defence in the wake of the injury to captain Vincent Kompany, is also crocked.

The 32-year-old centre back endured a strange summer before joining the Citizens. Having been signed on a free from Malaga, he didn't get the chance to play for Atletico and was subsequently sold on after Pellegrini made an offer.

It is believed that Atletico were happy to let him leave once they completed the capture of Liverpool target Toby Alderweireld.
