With every Premier League season we are guaranteed a few surprises.

The 2008/09 season saw unlikely lads Hull City go joint top of the Premier League after nine games despite being favourites for relegation.

Similarly, last season saw West Brom in contention for a Champions League spot after nineteen games.

This season looks to be no different. Liverpool look like they could challenge for the title after winning their opening three games without conceding a goal.

Crystal Palace, written off as relegation fodder, look to be much stronger on the pitch than they do on paper.

We can also expect some players to raise their profiles and become stars for their teams.

Last season saw the emergence of the likes of Michael Carrick, who had previously been left unappreciated by the footballing world.

Here we look at five players who could be set for a similar emergence this season.
