An own goal is one of the most horrible things a player can do on a football pitch, inciting foul-mouthed abuse from their own supporters and a barrage of laughter from the opposition.

However it is a fairly common occurrence and can even happen more than once in a game. Just ask former Sunderland man Michael Proctor for instance, as he netted a fantastic brace in a match against Charlton Athletic, both of which came in his own net.

Other honourable mentions include Djimi Traore's stunning pirouette own goal in an FA Cup tie against Burnley for Liverpool, however we are focusing on the Premier League right now and here are five of the best ever scored since it's inception in 1992.
