Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is frustrated about being left to rot in Paul Lambert's squad after the midlands club failed to agree an exit deal for the player.
Hutton is entering his third season at Villa Park but has been on loan for most of that time. In his debut season he made 34 appearances for the club but last season he was loaned to Nottingham Forest.
The defender made just seven appearances for Forest before moving to Spain halfway through the campaign to get more playing time. He made 17 appearances for Real Mallorca in a more prosperous spell.
However, it seems with all the business being dealt with over the summer at Villa Park, the unwanted 28-year-old has been abandoned.
"I am in limbo. I had a few opportunities to go back to Spain, there were a few options, but unfortunately Villa could not agree to the loan terms. It has left me in a position where I am not too sure what is going to happen. It is very frustrating. To have options to go to different teams and they can’t - or are not willing - to agree terms is very annoying, put it that way. I was desperate to get out there," he said.
Hutton, who has made 33 appearances for Scotland, could start for his country tonight against Belgium but will surely be more concerned about his club career.
"Mallorca want me back, but I had three options to go back to La Liga and none of them could agree terms. I have had no explanation. If you don’t want somebody then you let them go. You do everything you can to help the player, I would have thought," he added.
With the transfer window shut, the only options for Hutton are to either force his way into Lambert's plans, or get Villa to loan him to another club until the end of the season. But, as time goes by, clubs are less likely to make additions as the season hits top speed, which could see the right-back forced to struggle on until the end of the season.
