Former AC Milan favourite Gennaro Gattuso has told fans to be patient with Kaka following the Brazilian star's return to the club.
Kaka, who became the world's most expensive footballer following his £56 million move from Milan to Real Madrid in June 2009, called time on a disappointing four-year stint in La Liga and re-joined his former club for free this summer on a two-year deal.
But while the 31-year-old's return to Serie A has seen fan expectations markedly increase at the San Siro this season Gattuso, who became synonymous with the Rossoneri during a 13-year spell with the club, has warned fans that they will need to be patient with regards to their returning hero.
"You have to be patient with Kaka. I hope that the fans do not expect to see the Kaka from the past right away," Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia.
"We should not forget that he has not been playing much for the past three years and has been unable to act at his highest level.
"That's why the Milan fans should be patient and give him time. Kaka is a great player and also a good person to have in the dressing room."
Milan, who finished third behind eventual champions Juventus and Napoli in Serie A last season, have experienced a rather mixed start to the domestic 2013/14 campaign, with one win and won loss from their opening two games leaving them in sixth place. Their next fixture sees them travel to Torino on September 14.
Gattuso, meanwhile, has endured a similarly indifferent start to the campaign as manager of Serie B promotion hopefuls Palermo. The former Italian international is currently in his second managerial, after previously managing Swiss outfit FC Sion.
