Three England fans were taken to hospital following a confrontation between two sets of rival supporters, reports the Daily Mail.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of incidents in Kiev involving British nationals. We are providing consular assistance."
The two teams met during the 2012 World Cup, a tournament that Ukraine co-hosted, although there were no reports of trouble surrounding that game.
Reports suggest that England fans had gathered outside a coffee shop in Kiev, and after exchanging insults, the altercation broke out. Between 50 and 100 Ukraine fans, armed with knifes, arrived on the main promenade and began to verbally abuse the England fans.
Fighting soon broke out between the two sets of supporters before Police arrived on the scene 10 minutes later.
"After getting medical treatment they were taken back to their accommodation," an official statement said.
'Police in full body armour are on duty all over Kiev,' said a spokesman for the Interior Ministry. 'We must not allow a repetition of Sunday's scenario.'
A win for England tomorrow will put them within touching distance of a place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
England currently top Group H with 15 points, ahead of Montenegro only by virtue of goal difference. Ukraine are just one point behind in third place, so England fans should expect a closely fought encounter.
