Barcelona president Sandro Rossell has told Barca TV he is hopeful of renewing the contract of Barcelona and Spain midfielder Andres Iniesta.
Iniesta has been at Barcelona for his entire professional career after coming through the club's famous La Masia training facility.
After making over 300 appearances for Barca and 89 for Spain, the three-time Ballon d’Or nominee has reportedly decided to extend his current contract past its current 2015 expiry.
Speaking to Barca TV, Sandro Rossell has praised Iniesta as one of the most important parts of the Barcelona team:
“Iniesta is one of the building blocks of the side. He should have his rightful place just behind Messi.”
Rossell is confident that Iniesta will decide to commit his future to Barcelona, after being linked with Manchester United over the past few seasons:
“We may soon announce the renewal of Iniesta” he told Barca TV.
This will come as a big boost to Barcelona, with Andres Iniesta one of their most successful players. He has helped Barcelona to six La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, three Champions League titles and six Spanish Super Cups.
With Spain, Iniesta has a similarly impressive record, helping La Roja win back-to-back Euro Championships, as well as the 2010 World Cup. At 29, Iniesta has plenty of time to become a Spanish cap centurion, and is considered a key figure in the success his nation has enjoyed over the last few years.
