A legendary singer, a not so legendary footballer.
Diana Ross was in full flow at the 1994 World Cup opening ceremony, as the Americans put on a serious show of extravagance for the watching world. And, the 69-year-old’s moment of ‘glory’ arrived when a goal appeared out of nowhere and a keeper started bouncing up-and-down in-front of the legendary Supremes star.
However, Ross buckled under the penalty pressure, spooning her shot well wide. Still, the show went on, the goal split as if she’d found the back of the net, and all was right in the world.
