Every year, FIFA ratings usually spark some heated debates related to the ratings of players. This year was no different with some very questionable ratings. GMS Academy member Yash Dhruva has compiled a list of the most overrated and underrated players in the popular video game.
5. Iker Casillas 86
The Spanish captain has been one of the best goalkeepers throughout the past decade, however he has had a disappointing season that saw him dropped to the bench. Casillas was rated as the highest goalkeeper in the game along with Neuer (86) and higher than the likes of Petr Cech (85) who were arguably better performers last season
4. David Silva 88
Silva is a very talented player; however the rating does not justify his average performances this year. Juan Mata and Mesut Ozil (rated 87 each) were far better performers last season and deserve to be more highly rated than Silva.
3. Nemanja Vidic 87
The Serbian has definitely been one of the top football defenders in the world for the past few years however does not deserve to be rated as high as Thiago Silva (87) and higher than the likes of Chiellini (86) after not featuring a lot last season due to injury.
2. Marko Marin 78
After a very poor season at Stamford Bridge, Marin’s rating has stayed the same as it was in FIFA 13 and is rated higher than Victor Moses (75) who has featured a lot more impressively and frequently than Marin.
1. Samir Nasri 84
The Frenchman has endured another average season at the Etihad. The Manchester City star now surprisingly finds himself at 84 – the same rating as Neymar. No doubt there are several more deserving players that aren’t as highly rated.
Honorable mentions: Aguero 88, Modric 85, Young 82, Valencia 83, Terry 83
5. Gareth Bale 87
The most expensive player in the world has improved vastly this year as an all round player. Yet he has found himself behind Robin van Persie (89) in the ratings – the same player Bale beat to win the PFA Player of the Year.
4. Theo Walcott 81
Walcott was one of Arsenal’s most impressive players last season and was also their top scorer with 21 goals. Yet, he is rated below the likes of wingers Antonio Valencia (83) and Ashley Young (82) that did not perform anywhere near the standard of Walcott last season.
3. Matija Nastasić 77
Along with Pablo Zabaleta, Nastasić was arguably Manchester City’s best player last season performing exceptionally well at the back keeping the likes of Lescott out of the first team and it is surprising that Lescott (81) and Everton's Sylvain Distin (80) and higher rated than him.
2. Christian Benteke 79
The Belgian had an impressive season with Aston Villa taking them out of the relegation zone and scoring 23 goals. He is massively under-rated compared to the likes of Fernando Torres (82), Demba Ba (81) and several others.
1. Neymar 84
The ‘golden boy’ of Brazilian football is a surprising exclusion from the top 50 of the FIFA ratings, lower than Luka Modric (85) and Pedro (84). Possessing a wide range of skills and abilities, the rating does not reflect his true talent.
Honorable mentions: Suarez 86, Ivanovic 80, Carrick 82, Ramires 80
