Chelsea midfielder Ramires has issued an apology for his tackle on Bayern Munich's summer signing Mario Gotze in last month's UEFA Super Cup.
Gotze, who completed a £31.5m move to the Allianz Arena from Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund this summer, was left with an injured ankle and was forced to wear a plaster cast last week following a challenge which resulted in a red card for Ramires.
The Germany international is now expected to miss the next few weeks - but his club team-mate Dante has passed on an apology from Ramires via the German newspaper, Bild.
"Ramires is an incredibly kind person and he's told me that he is very sorry about Mario's injury," Dante was quoted as saying by ITV Sport. "He definitely did not want to injure him and he has asked me to apologise to Mario on his behalf."
Ten-man Chelsea still managed to take the lead in extra time, but a Javi Martinez strike at the death forced the match to penalties, where Chelsea were beaten 5-4 after Blues' striker Romelu Lukaku missed the decisive spot-kick.
