Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny admits this is a big season for him, as he seeks to cement his position as Arsene Wenger's number one.

The Poland international was left out of the team for a short spell towards the end of last season, but after winning his place back has delivered a number of assured performances already this campaign.

Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun is poised to sign for Getafe.

The Israel international is a free agent after Chelsea failed to renew his contract when it expired back in June.

Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero has claimed that Manuel Pellegrini was keen to take him to Manchester City.

Pellegrini coached the Argentine at Malaga before leaving this summer to replace Roberto Mancini at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester United are expected to table the £21.5million asking price for Benfica central defender Ezequiel Garay in the January transfer window.

The Argentine international is said to be disappointed by not moving to Old Trafford in the summer, and David Moyes knows he has to up the ante, if he is to land his man.

England manager Roy Hodgson has branded Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll as “an outstanding footballer”.

Hodgson has seen the youngster at close quarters while working with the Under-21 squad. And he singled the Spurs youngster out for individual praise.

And finally, Barcelona president Sandro Rosell still hopes to convince goalkeeper Victor Valdes to sign a new contract at Camp Nou.

Valdes has said he will leave Barcelona next summer when his current deal expires, but Rosell has not given up hope of keeping the Spaniard.
