New Zealand player in horror stomp

Published Add your comment

In what was supposed to be a 'friendly' encounter between the United Arab Emirates and New Zealand in Saudi Arabia yesterday, Kiwi defender Ben Sigmund shocked supporters and opposition players alike with a shocking stamp on Ali Mabkhout that earned him a straight red card.

In a game played out in almost unbearably warm temperatures at King Fahd International Stadium, Sigmund appeared to take his considerable frustration out on his opponent as New Zealand slumped to a surprising 2-0 defeat against opponents currently ranked 30 places below them in the four-nation OSN Cup encounter.

The Wellington Phoenix centre-back is likely to regret his totally rash and utterly deplorable actions this morning, with Mabkhout, who plays for Al Jazira at club level, lucky to have avoided serious injury.
