Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will earn his landmark 100th cap for England when they play against Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.

Lampard will join an elite group which includes the likes of Peter Shilton, David Beckham, Sir Bobby Charlton, Billy Wright, Steven Gerrard, team-mate Ashley Cole and England's World Cup winning captain Sir Bobby Moore.

This comes at a crucial time in England's qualifying campaign as Ukraine are hot on their heals and only a point behind England and a defeat would see the Three Lions tumble to third place.

Hodgson said: "Frank will play tomorrow night so that's a quite a first. I've been very lucky to have three players who have reached [100 caps in the same side] and all things being equal Frank will start and get his 100th cap.

Lampard who recently overtook Bobby Tambling as Chelsea's all time leading scorer is in a landmark spell in his career and at the age of 35 is still looking to improve and play a huge role for club and country.

Such dedication has eclipsed many a great English player who succumbed to an early international retirement.

And the Chelsea midfielder could start alongside Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere - the trio started the 4-0 win over Moldova on Friday night.
