The Chip Kelly era got off to the ideal start as the Philadelphia Eagles racked up a huge lead and held on to see off their divisional rivals, Washington Redskins, 33-27.

Using Kelly's non-stop play mentality, the Eagles managed to fit 53 plays into the first 30 minutes of action (compared to the Redskins 21) as both teams were left breathless by the ferocious pace.

As such, it should be no surprise that the Eagles were up 26-7 at half-time. A 25-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brent Celek, as well as a three yard touchdown run capped off a brilliant first half for Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick.

Vick's performance upstaged the returning Redskins QB, Robert Griffin III, who suffered a torn ACL late last year and was making his first start since.

The Redskins offence were stumbling throughout the first half. RG3 couldn't get settled in the pocket and overthrew a couple passes, while Alf Morris fumbled once and received a bad hand-off from RG3 in their own endzone, leading to a safety and two points for the Eagles.

At the start of the third quarter, LeSean McCoy got in for a 34 yard touchdown run to put the Eagles 26 points ahead.

McCoy finished the game with 184 yards on 31 carries, averaging nearly six yards a carry and looked a great fit for Kelly's offence.

The Redskins showed some life as the game winded down and showed a possible flaw in Kelly's plans as they rallied with 21 unanswered points.

Alf Morris got a three yard touchdown run while Leonard Hankerson caught 10 and 24-yard passes for touchdowns, but it was too much for the Redskins to overcome. They start the season 0-1 as they try to reclaim their NFC East title.
