England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerard has praised Frank Lampard as he is set to receive his 100th cap against Ukraine in tonight's World Cup qualifier.
“No-one deserves it more than Frank. He’s been tremendous for club and country,” said Gerrard.
“He’s a top player and I hope I’m on the pitch when he does get 100 caps to share the moment with him as I’ve been with him all the way through and he’s a good friend of mine.“
The Chelsea star has been in good form in recent appearances for club and country and will be joining the very exclusive centurion club for England.
International team mates Gerrard and Ashley Cole are two of eight other players in English footballing history that have received 100 caps for their country.
The midfield duo have sparked a lot of debate in the past to whether they can play effectively together for England.
The 33-year-old Liverpudlian spoke of his relationship with the Chelsea favourite on the pitch.
“A lot of people talk about me and Frank being in the same team, and we enjoy playing together. On Friday I thought he was going to unload the shot himself, but he was unselfish and laid it on for me," The England captain concluded.
“You only have to look at his record and anyone who gets near a 100 caps deserves it. He deserves all the accolades he gets and he’s been a top player for club and country for a very long time.”
The pair will team up tonight in a crucial game ageist Ukraine in Kiev that could see the Three Lions clinch top spot of group H.
Currently England share top spot with Montenegro but have one game in hand. Tonight's rival team Ukraine only trail by one point so all three teams still have everything to play for to ensure automatic qualification to Brazil 2014.
